Trump ‘will remember’ David Lammy branding him ‘neo-Nazi sympathiser’ | World | News

Donald Trump will “remember” a litany of aggressive and accusatory remarks made against him by the new Foreign Secretary, according to former US Ambassador Woody Johnson.

David Lammy, who’s now the UK’s chief diplomat, fired numerous shots at President Trump when he was in office.

In 2018, the MP for Tottenham dubbed him a “neo-Nazi sympathizing sociopath”, a “dangerous clown”, and perhaps more startlingly “a racist KKK and Nazi sympathizer.”

He even pledged to oppose President Trump visiting Britain.

Since becoming Foreign Secretary, however, Mr Lammy has been seeking to curry favour with Trump’s circle and top Republicans.

That included claiming that he and Trump’s running mate, JD Vance, came from “similar backgrounds”. Vance comes from humble beginnings, and the prospective vice-president has stressed that his childhood was stricken by poverty, abuse and drugs.

Mr Lammy has referenced that he too has had addiction issues in his family.

But ex-ambassador Johnson, the US representative in the UK under Trump, told the Spectator that people across the pond will remember Lammy’s previous interventions.

He said: “I think people will remember all those comments.

“It’s a question of how do you recover from them. That was not a wise comment,”, he noted, specifcally referring to the ‘neo-Nazi’ barb.

“But those things happen in politics … there’s always a way to recover if you want.”

Lammy has not stepped away from the comments, but tried to downplay them.

He told the BBC in July that “you’re going to struggle to find any politician who has not had things to say about Donald Trump in his first term.”

Donald Trump has the thickest of skins,” Lammy went on.
