The father of Charlie Kirk’s alledged killer helped federal authorities with finding the suspect. Robinson was partly turned in by his pastor. Tyler reportedly confessed to the murder to his father, who encouraged him to surrender. According to sources, Tyler initially refused but later agreed. His father then reached out to the youth pastor for help, and the pastor contacted federal authorities.
At a Thursday night news conference, the FBI and Utah Governor Spencer Cox urged the public to come forward with any leads, releasing surveillance photos from the school where Kirk was shot. Earlier today, Donald Trump suggested that the suspect’s father had helped turn him in. Robinson was wearing a distinctive sweatshirt and his facial features were clear enough that his dad recognised he was the man on the roof who killed Charlie Kirk.
Robinson, a Utah resident, has been on the run since Kirk was assassinated on Wednesday. His mother posted several pictures with Tyler on Faceook, including that he aced his ACT and had a 4.0 GPA in high school. The mum also shared a video of her son reading a letter, announcing that he had been awarded a national scholarship of £23,600 to Utah State University. Tyler was not a student at Utah Valley University where the shooting happened.
His mother also posted a photo from Halloween in 2017, in which Robinson is pictured wearing a Donald Trump costume, standing next to someone with a toy rifle.
Authorities say the bullets linked to suspect Tyler Robinson contained markings reflecting online culture and references to the anti-fascist movement, Antifa.
One fired shell read, “notices bulges OwO what’s this?” – a reference to an internet “copypasta”- a block of text that is copied and pasted repeatedly across the internet, often in forums, usually spreading a joke. An unfired casing said, “Hey fascist! Catch!” with a sequence of arrows possibly referencing Antifa symbols or a gaming cheat code. Another casing featured lyrics from the WWII Italian resistance song “Bella Ciao,” while a third read, “If you read this, you are gay lmao,” reflecting online trolling humour.
Antifa is a loose network of far-left activists in the US who often oppose Trump’s policies and far-right groups.
