Typhoon Ragasa LIVE: China prepares for deadly storm after 14 killed in Taiwan | World | News

A super typhoon, which has been nicknamed the “king of storms”, has killed at least 14 people and injured dozens more. Super Typhoon Ragasa is expected to hit China in a few hours. In preparation, the country has evacuated nearly two million people from its southern Guangdong province.

The equivalent of a Category 5 hurricane, Ragasa is the world’s strongest storm this year. Over a dozen, possibly more, have been killed in Taiwan after a lake burst, causing severe flooding in the east, which geologists have described as a “tsunami from the mountains”. Having picked up pace in the South China Sea over the last few days,Ragasa has already brought heavy rain and strong winds to the Philippines, Taiwan, Hong Kong and southern China. The eye of the storm is expected to make landfall at 3pm GMT on Wednesay (11pm local) near the city of Zhanjiang in Guangdong.
