UK pizzeria with ‘world’s best pizza’ has Brits rushing to try it
Most Britons relish indulging in a quality pizza occasionally, yet you may be startled to discover that last year’s ‘world best pizza can’ be found right here in the UK.
Whilst pizza’s roots extend back to the 1500s, the contemporary version originated in Naples, Italy, when street sellers began topping flatbreads with tomatoes – a “New World” ingredient previously believed to be toxic.
Little surprise, then, that an Italian-operated UK pizzeria has claimed the title for the ‘best pizza in the world’ – Napoli on the Road, situated in London. Following its designation as pizza of the year in 2025, London food enthusiast Tasmin admitted on Instagram that she could “100% see why” after visiting its Tottenham Court Road Station branch.
She tasted the establishment’s award-winning Ricordi d’Infanzia pizza, boasting slow-cooked ragu, grated parmesan, parmesan fondue, basil and evo oil.
“The restaurant itself is also the fifth best pizza place in the world,” she disclosed. “They’ve just opened up a new spot in Soho, in addition to their Chiswick and Richmond locations.”
Tasmin’s Instagram post showcased clips of the restaurant and their acclaimed pizzas, and it seemed many were keen to sample it.
One of her 32,300 followers commented: “Heard good things,” whilst another remarked: “Yes yes yes – this looks epic.”
A third responded: “What an award! Will have to try on my next trip to London.”
Meanwhile, a fourth confessed they were “drooling”.
Those who had previously dined there concurred the accolade was well-earned, with one declaring: “As an Italian myself I can absolutely confirm this! Love Napoli on the Road.”
Another chimed in: “Napoli on the Road is 10/10.”
Napoli on the Road claimed Pizza of the Year 2025 recognition for its signature creation, Ricordi d’Infanzia.
In the 2025 rankings from 50 Top Pizza, considered the world’s foremost authority on pizza, the restaurant secured the title of Best Pizzeria in Europe for the second consecutive year. It achieved first position as Europe’s premier pizzeria (excluding Italy).
The establishment also secured fifth place internationally amongst the globe’s finest pizzerias. The accolade for World’s Best Pizzeria 2025 was jointly awarded to Una Pizza Napoletana in New York and I Masanielli in Caserta, Italy.
It comes as little surprise that Napoli on the Road was established by a Naples-born pizzaiolo who moved to London aged 19.
Michele Pascarella initially launched the enterprise in 2016 as a street food venture, serving pizzas from a three-wheeled Ape Piaggio van at local markets. He has subsequently developed the brand into an award-winning restaurant empire constructed entirely without support from external investors.
