Without you even realising, there’s some pieces worth an absolute fortune. Just recently, a rare penny coin with a “unique” feature fetched £140,000 at auction.

It just goes to show, it’s always crucial checking to see what you have. Now a unique version of the iconic Kew Gardens 50p is causing a stir on TikTok.

We all know the standard coin could flog for £250, if not more on eBay. With just 210,000 in circulation, it’s incredibly hard to get your claws on a piece.

But now there’s a gold proof version you need to look out for. User @CoinCollectingWizard, who has amassed a following of 189,000 followers on the platform, recently highlighted this iconic piece.

We’re all familiar with the special status of the Kew Gardens 50p coin, but did you know there’s another version?

This coin was first released in 2009 to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the iconic London landmark. However, a gold version is valued at £7,000.

In a video, the TikTok user revealed: “£7,000 for this 50p but only if it’s gold. The ultra rare version of the Kew Gardens 50p was estimated to fetch between £5,000 and £6,000.

“The winning bidder managed to secure this PF 70 grade version, which is the highest grade a coin can achieve. There were only 629 gold proof versions of the Kew Gardens 50p coin purchased by the public in 2009.”

Described as the “holy grail” of coins, this piece is believed to have skyrocketed in value by hundreds.

He concluded: “A similar auction five years ago saw the gold proof sell for £2,000, meaning it has shot up in value by 240%.”

The clip, which was recently shared, attracted a flurry of likes and comments. One viewer queried: “Do you have this beautiful coin?” while others were left marvelling at the design.
