US Open food and drink prices with £9 beers and water more expensive than crisps | Golf | Sport
Fans heading to the US Open this week will be forced to pay huge sums for food and drink at Oakmont. Bottles of water will set people back more than a bag of crisps, according to a price list shared online.
Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau and co. will head to the third major championship of the year this week. Fans will have already forked out large amounts of money on tickets for the event. A price list circulated online shows they will also be forced to fork out for food and drink.
A bottle of water is set to cost £3.67 ($4.95). That is more expensive than a bag of crisps, which will cost £2.58 ($3.49). Corona appears to be the main beer on offer, and will cost punters nearly £9 ($11.95) per bottle.
That is the same price as a cheeseburger from the main menu. A Philly cheesesteak will set you back £10.33 ($13.95). An Italian sausage is £8.11 ($10.95), while an all-beef hot dog is the cheapest main menu option at £5.62 ($7.59).
There are also vegetarian food options, including a £9 ($12.25) asiago turkey sandwich, an £8 ($10.95) veggie wrap, and a £7 ($9.95) caesar salad. From the breakfast menu, £1.44 ($1.95) can afford a single banana.
Golf’s biggest stars have already started to descend on Oakmont. Masters champion McIlroy is not fancying his chances after missing the cut at the Canadian Open, having scored a horror nine over par.
Asked about his form, McIlroy told the PGA Tour’s media channels: “Of course it concerns me. You don’t want to shoot high scores like the one I did today. I felt like I came here with a new driver thinking that was going to be good and solve some of the problems off the tee, but it didn’t.
“Going to Oakmont next week, what you need to do more than anything else there is hit fairways. [I’m] still searching for the missing piece off the tee. When I get that part of the game clicking, then everything falls into place for me. Right now, that isn’t.
“Even though the two days didn’t go the way I wanted them to, there’s still things I can take from it and still things I can learn. I’m going to have to do a lot of practice, a lot of work over the weekend at home and try to at least have a better idea of where my game is going into next week.”
