Veterinary nurse says these 2 dog breeds are ‘easiest’

If you’re contemplating bringing a dog into your household but are struggling to choose which breed, a veterinary nurse has revealed which she considers the “easiest to work with”. Eve Moorhouse, who owns four dogs herself, shared her professional insights on TikTok. “Not every dog fits its breed’s standard, though you can normally make a presumption and be right,” she stated in a video.

Somewhat surprisingly, Eve pointed out two “big dogs” that she’s found to be particularly co-operative at her surgery. “Irish Wolfhounds, Great Danes (…) they are normally so unfazed by everything because they are around the same size as you,” she noted.

Eve continued: “They don’t normally know I have done anything to them. I’ve taken bloods from them by myself just stood there… in big pipelines in their legs and they just don’t care.”

The nurse also pointed out that both breeds tend to be “pretty lazy” and are “gentle giants”. However, she acknowledged that Irish Wolfhounds and Great Danes aren’t entirely without challenges – though these difficulties affect veterinary staff rather than owners.

“I’ve seen it before where they don’t fit on the operating table!” Eve revealed. “We’ve had to put two operating tables together just to get them on and it takes six staff members!”

In conclusion, she summarised: “So in terms of operations, maybe gigantic dogs aren’t the easiest to work with. However, temperament-wise, they normally are.”

Writing in response, numerous TikTok users also expressed their support for the two large breeds. “So true, I had an Irish Wolfhound as a child growing up,” one of those shared. “He was the gentlest most chilled dog.”

A second person shared: “Great Dane here. He absolutely adores all the staff at our vets and just lets them get on with whatever they need to do. He just sits there and gives them his paw when he needs a cannula put in. The best boy.”

A third remarked: “I have a Great Dane crossed with a Pointer and she will let vets do anything. Always good as gold and doesn’t even know when they do her jabs.”

Whilst a fourth TikTok user questioned: “Do you find dogs that are shown easier? Mine are trained to allow handling from strangers and will ‘stand’ on command.”

Eve confirmed: “Yes definitely, I don’t see that many show dogs in any general practices I’ve worked for. But the ones I have seen are a lot better. The owners also are really good and experienced in controlling their pets, which is nice.”
