Wetherspoon announces price change in UK pubs in January | UK | News
JD Wetherspoon has announced a price change across more than 600 of its UK pubs in January.
The popular pub chain is holding a January sale from Friday, January 2 until Thursday, January 15, inclusive (from Saturday, January 3, in Scottish pubs), allowing customers to purchase a pint for as little as 99p. To ring in the New Year, Wetherspoon customers will be able to enjoy an array of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks for bargain prices, helping to save some pennies after the expensive Christmas period. Among the drinks featured in the sale is a pint of Worthington’s beer for just 99p each, so customers can spend a mere £1 and still have a bit of change left over.
A 250ml glass of Chardonnay, pinot grigio, rose or merlot for £2.99 each, Johnnie Walker Black Label (25ml including a mixer) for £1.99 and Tanqueray gin (25ml including a mixer) also for £1.99.
A range of low-alcohol and alcohol-free drinks will also be featured in the sale, with Guinness 0.0, Corona Cero, Brewdog Punk AF, Stella Artois Alcohol Free, Erdinger Isotonic, Thatchers zero, Koppaberg Alcohol Free, and Gordons 0. 0 pink gin all priced at £1.69 each, while Beck’s Blue and Sanpellegrino Aranciata Rossa will be just 99p each.
Wetherspoon is also cutting the price of some of its food menu items too, with customers able to pick up an 11-inch Margherita pizza and a crunchy chicken burger, served with chips or side salad, for £4.99 with a soft drink, or £6.52 with an alcoholic drink.
A choice of six jacket potatoes, plus three new gourmet jackets, will also be available in the January sale. A jacket potato with a choice of one filling, including tuna mayo, coleslaw, chilli bean non-carne, cheese, baked beans or roasted vegetables, will cost £4.99 including a soft drink, or £6.52 for an alcoholic drink. Customers can also add an extra filling or side salad for 99p.
The gourmet jacket potatoes, which are new to the menu, will cost £6.49 with a soft drink and £8.02 with an alcoholic drink. The loaded spud is topped with cheese, maple-cured bacon, garlic butter and sour cream.
The Mexican spud, a vegetarian option, is loaded with chilli bean non-carne, cheese, guacamole, crushed tortilla chips, sliced chillies and coriander. Finally, the smoky spud is loaded with pulled BBQ beef brisket, cheese, smoky chipotle mayo and sliced chillies.
Commenting on the sale, Wetherspoon founder and chairman Tim Martin said: “Department stores and shops hold their sales in January, so it is the perfect time to have a sale in the pub too.
“The range of drinks and food on sale in the pub is aimed at suiting a wide variety of tastes. We have included a large selection of low and non-alcoholic drinks.
“I believe that the January Sale will prove popular with our customers. As always, staff at the pub will serve customers responsibly.”
Wetherspoon has said the January sale prices will be available across more than 600 of its UK pubs, but prices at 200 other Wetherspoon pubs may vary.
