Wetherspoon pubs currently for sale across the UK – full list

Wetherspoon has more than 790 pubs across the UK but the portfolio could soon be reduced by 10 with some sites up for sale.

Sites across Cardiff, Swindon, Felixstowe, and more have been listed on the market and are seeking new owners. Many were listed last year though some have since been retracted from the market, including The Gate House, Doncaster.

In September 2023 The Gate House on Priory Walk was named as one of 10 put on the market by Wetherspoon. But Wetherspoon spokesman Eddie Gershon told the Doncaster Free Press on March 21 that the pub was “no longer for sale” and will “continue to run as a Wetherspoon pub”.

It follows the closure of at least a dozen ‘Spoons’ locations already this year. The most recent being the London & Rye Wetherspoon in Catford which locked its doors for good after 24 years on Sunday, August 25. The pub was put up for sale by letting agent Savills earlier this year with offers starting from £850,000.

Owner Tim Martin said the company has largely closed venues which are “smaller and older”, or where it has another site nearby.

All the Wetherspoon pubs that are currently for sale

  • The Pontlottyn, Abertillery
  • The Ivor Davies, Cardiff
  • Spa Lane Vaults, Chesterfield
  • The Sir Daniel Arms, Swindon
  • The Plough and Harrow, London
  • Sennockian, Sevenoaks
  • Hain Line, St Ives
  • Lord Claud Hamilton, Felixstowe (underdeveloped site)
  • Barid’s Department Store, Hamilton (underdeveloped site)
  • Foot of the Walk, Leith
  • Thomas Drummond, Fleetwood
  • The Quay, Poole

On top of those, some pubs are currently “under offer”:

As for other pub closures, some have been re-established as new boozers. The Market Cross in Holywell was scrapped as a Wetherspoon and has since reopened under new management with similarly “cheap” food and drink promised by its new owner, according to local news reports.

A third Wetherspoon location, The Regent, in Kirkby-in-Ashfield, has also been re-established as a new pub in addition to The Mockbeggar Hall, Moreton which closed its doors for good on March 17. Elsewhere, Wetherspoon still continues to try and sell its Christopher Creeke site in Lansdowne Road, Bournemouth. The chain closed this pub in March 2022.

It’s not all bad news though as the pub chain has confirmed the opening of two brand new locations in September; The Lion & The Unicorn in London Waterloo Station on Tuesday, September 3, and The Grand Assembly in Marlow on Tuesday, September 24.
