Wicked For Good fans slam major Golden Globes snub | Films | Entertainment
Wicked devotees are in uproar after the recently unveiled sequel Wicked: For Good was overlooked for a crucial accolade at the 2026 Golden Globes.
The picture, featuring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, failed to secure a nod for best musical or comedy film, being beaten by Blue Moon, Bugonia, Marty Supreme, No Other Choice, Nouvelle Vague and One Battle After Another.
Despite achieving commercial triumph, the follow-up, which included some cut sequences, failed to generate the same excitement as its predecessor, with the latter portion of the stage production it adapts commonly considered the inferior half.
Whilst Erivo and Grande both earned recognition in the performance categories – for best female actor and best supporting female respectively – supporters couldn’t comprehend their best musical ‘oversight’.
The BBC labelled it the “biggest snub of the day”, with enthusiasts flocking to X, previously Twitter, to voice their disbelief.
Sanad declared: “I don’t even want to be dramatic, but no #WickedForGood even as a nominee in the Best Musical category is ridiculous.”
Matts contributed: “The biggest snubs are probably Safdie for director and Wicked for Musical/Comedy.”
Jackson revealed: “Audibly gasped AND laughed at Wicked: For Good getting snubbed in Musical or Comedy.”
Matt Duffy remarked: “They really fumbled the ball not giving Wicked the Best Musical/Comedy Globe last year #GoldenGlobes”.
Shay questioned: “So you are telling me that the voting body for the Golden Globes thought Emilia Perez was a better musical than Wicked?” Over on Threads, supporters continued voicing their bewilderment regarding the nominations, with abbeybonadies posting: “Wicked: For Good not being nominated for Best Picture (musical/comedy) at the @goldenglobes when both Cynthia and Ariana are nominated for Best Lead and Supporting Actresses AND both of their new songs are nominated for Best Original Song? Make it make sense?!”
The picture garnered less favourable critiques compared to its forerunner yet remained a box office triumph, earning recognition as amongst 2025’s finest films from both the National Board of Review and the American Film Institute.
This follow-up boasts a 68% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics noting: “Taking one last lap down the yellow brick road, Wicked: For Good’s darker tone and unhurried pacing sometimes get in the way, but this epic conclusion ultimately brings Elphaba and Glinda’s story home in rousing fashion.”
Meanwhile, Wicked novelist Gregory Maguire has recently unveiled the publication date for a Galinda prequel entitled Galinda: A Charmed Childhood.
This tome serves as a companion piece to Elphie: A Wicked Childhood, which hit shelves earlier this year.
