Woman discovers easy method to wash hair at festivals with no water
A woman has discovered a simple hack for washing your hair whilst camping or at a festival.
Summer is a favorite season for enjoying outdoor events and activities, and many people choose to sleep in tents when camping or going to music festivals, as these usually require overnight stays at designated sites. But, spending extended periods outdoors can make accessing amenities like showers or even basic water supplies considerably more challenging.
Chelsea Dickenson, who shares money-saving holiday tips, has shared a potential solution for washing your hair without requiring any water whatsoever. She uploaded a video to TikTok showing how to use a rinse-free shampoo cap.
The self-proclaimed ‘budget holiday expert’ declared: “I have been so buzzing about testing this all week.” Chelsea experimented with the Nilaqua shampoo cap, available from Boots for £3.25.
She unwrapped the packaging and retrieved the disposable cap containing shampoo. The travel content creator observed that whilst the front of the packaging instructs users to microwave the cap, the back indicates it can be used cold.
Displaying the shower cap, Chelsea remarked: “Apparently all the shampooey goodness is inside here.” She then read the directions aloud: “Place cap onto head, tuck hair inside and massage hair through the cap.”
Her initial impression was that it felt “quite nice actually.” After enlisting her friend James to help with massaging her hair through the cap, Chelsea described the experience as feeling “lovely.”
The budget travel expert then removed the cap from her head and confessed that she hadn’t known what to anticipate. She appeared pleasantly surprised and believed that her hair “looked good.”
James told her that her hair smelled “coconutty” after using the shower cap and declared it to be “impressive.” Chelsea observed: “Honestly, I feel like I’ve had a fresh hair wash. Whilst it dries I’ve stuck it in some plaits. Let’s see how it is in about an hour’s time.”
After allowing her hair to dry for several hours she revealed that she was “chuffed” with the outcome, highlighting that it “does feel like it’s been washed.” The rinse free shower cap received a “massive thumbs up” from Chelsea.
In the caption of her TikTok video she detailed: “So I saw a video on TikTok where someone was flogging a SHAMPOO CAP which washed your hair without water and I thought ‘this would be great for festivals and camping.’ Even better was when I found a similar style of shampoo cap on Boots for just £3.25 – so I bought one, and took it along to Glastonbury with me.”
The Nilaqua rinse free shower cap is designed to allow you to cleanse your hair efficiently without water or rinsing, leaving your hair soft and clean. More than 200 people have responded to Chelsea’s post to share their opinions on this product.
One user said: “We use these in the hospice I work in, and they are amazing for those who are bed bound and need a good hair wash, always makes them feel better.” Another commented: “This would be an amazing solution in hospitals or postpartum when you literally can’t leave your newborn!
“Wish I had that would have helped massively.” A third person added: “Well I didn’t know these existed! What a great idea!”
