Woman shares ‘safe’ method to carry a bag that will help stop thieves

If you’ve ever had your bag stolen, you’ll know there’s nothing like that sinking feeling when you realise what was in there.

When you’re on holiday, it may be your purse, passport, and phone that get taken – which will make things super difficult for you. But it’s unpleasant no matter the circumstances.

However, TikTok user Synnøve Årdal has taken to the site to help with this – sharing the “safest way” to walk around with your bag on holiday. Not only does it make you safer, but it “looks good” too.

She captioned the video: “This might be stupid but I always do this if I walk around in a sketchy area. Does everyone do it? Like I think it’s so smart”.

It’s worth noting that this trick only works on double-strapped bags.

She said: “This is the safest way to not get your bag stolen on holiday,” before adding: “You know you normally carry your bag like that?”, as she demonstrated slinging it casually over her shoulder.

“Instead, do this”, she urged, as she separated the straps, put one around her in a cross-body style, and then lifted the rest of the strap, hooking it around her shoulder for extra protection.

Of course, a cross body bag can just be worn, but if you want to wear your favourite designer purchase while out and about, this is a great hack.

“No-one’s gonna steal that. They can’t!”, she insisted, because it was completely strapped around her body. She added: “Nobody’s gonna take that and run away with you, it’s like stuck to you”.

In the comments, people praised the hack, with one woman writing: “It actually looks really good, so clever!” Synnøve responded: “Yeah it looks good. You kind of get a little belt that makes your waist look smaller too”.

Another added: “That was so smooth”. But someone else fumed: “Why does nobody seem to realise that bag thieves can cut straps?”, while another joked that they “Just needed a Chanel now”.

A third added: “Laughs in plus size”, as another person said: “Yeah my muffin top won’t allow this”.
