Tiger Woods’ latest car crash has sparked increased “concerns” from Donald Trump Jr regarding the golfing icon’s relationship with Vanessa Trump and their five children. On Friday, Woods’ Land Rover flipped over after he collided with a lorry’s trailer while making a last-second attempt to overtake.
According to local sheriff John Budensiek, Woods was driving at excessive speed, preventing the pickup lorry driver from fully clearing the carriageway. Officers suspected Woods was under the influence, and while he recorded .000 on a breathalyser following his detention by Martin County officers, he declined to provide a urine sample to test for other substances. The 15-time major champion was eventually charged with driving under the influence, property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test.
After the collision, Woods reportedly climbed out through the passenger side of his vehicle. Remarkably, no one involved in the incident sustained injuries, but this latest episode has put the golfer at odds with Donald Trump Jr.
In March 2018, Vanessa Trump filed for an uncontested divorce from Donald Trump Jr. in New York. The couple share five children together, including 17-year-old Kai Trump, who has committed to the University of Miami to play golf.
Friday’s crash has “raised some concerns” for Trump Jr. regarding Woods’ presence in the lives of his children. A source recently told PEOPLE: “Don Jr. has been supportive of Tiger and Vanessa, especially when it comes to the kids, which is always his main focus. But the recent situation raised some concerns for him.”
The source indicated that Don “knows Vanessa can make her own decisions, but they’re a team when it comes to coparenting.” The source added: “He’s just thankful Vanessa and the kids weren’t involved.”
Since commencing his relationship with Trump, Woods had already been barred from driving the president’s grandchildren by the Secret Service. Donald Trump’s extended family is entitled to Secret Service protection until six months after his term ends in 2029.
Back in 2009, Woods crashed into a fire hydrant in the private golf community of Isleworth, near Orlando. Then in 2017, Woods fell asleep at the wheel while driving in Jupiter, Florida; he pleaded guilty to reckless driving following a DUI arrest, having been found unconscious with minor damage to his vehicle.
He attributed the incident to an unfavourable combination of medication, which led to a one-year probation sentence. Woods was involved in a single-vehicle collision in Rancho Palos Verde, California, in February 2021, which caused open fractures to his tibia and fibula. He faced no charges on that occasion, but Friday’s crash is simply the latest in a series of incidents behind the wheel.
