Young husband suffers ‘worst death imaginable’ followed by devastating act | World | News

A touching tribute has been made to a 26-year-old man who suffered a horrific death over 15 years ago at the site where he tragically lost his life.

John Edward Jones, a medical student and keen explorer, died in 2009 after becoming trapped in Nutty Putty Cave, located approximately 55 miles from Salt Lake City in Utah. He was exploring new caves with his brother Josh and other family members when the tragedy occurred.

The incident happened just days before they were due to celebrate Thanksgiving together. John found himself stuck in a narrow tunnel within the cave, ominously known as the ‘birth canal’, due to its tight confines.

He had attempted to navigate a tight passageway that supposedly had a turnaround point at the end, but unfortunately took a wrong turn. This section of the cave was unmapped and proved difficult for John, a tall man of six feet, to escape from.

Despite using all his strength, John became wedged upside down in the L-shaped passage. The constricting space, which was a staggering 400 feet from the cave’s entrance and measured a mere 10 inches by 18 inches, held him captive, reports <a href=”https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/us-news/devastating-act-after-man-suffers-36141468″ rel=”Follow” target=”_self”>the Mirror</a>.

With each breath, he became increasingly trapped in this extraordinarily confined space and, despite his brothers’ desperate attempts, they were unable to extract him.

Over the following 24 hours, more than 100 rescue workers laboured relentlessly to attempt to free John.

Tragically, John never escaped from the cave and back to safety, dying after suffering cardiac arrest at the close of the day on November 25, 2009.

It took 27 hours of being trapped in the cave before he perished, and since then, the cave has remained unvisited and is now completely sealed off to prevent any further loss of life.

A few years ago two YouTubers known online as the Legacy Crawlers visited the site, and in their video revealed a moving tribute that has been created by John’s loved ones.

There, on what was once the entrance to the cave, sat a memorial, with a picture of John, commemorating his life and his tragic death.

Speaking about her late husband in 2016, John’s wife Emily told Deseret News: “I can say that I know for sure, without a doubt, I know there is life after death. I know John is still alive.

“I know because I’ve been able to talk to him since he died, and I’ve had several experiences where the veil has been thin, and I’ve had these sacred moments where I don’t understand everything and my faith is not perfect, but I know he’s out there, and I know there’s life after death.”
