87 muscle conditions that can qualify for £778 a month PIP – full list | Personal Finance | Finance

The latest figures from the Department for Work and Pensions show that over 3.9 million people in England and Wales are not claiming Personal Independence Payment (PIP). The disability benefit helps people with long-term health conditions or disabilities cover extra costs. Those with muscle and joint disorders that can affect mobility or the ability to complete daily living tasks can also claim financial help.

PIP is now worth up to £778 every four-week period for those on the higher rates of the daily living and mobility components. Official DWP data shows people living with any one of 87 musculoskeletal conditions may qualify for the payment depending on how their condition affects their everyday life.

According to the DWP figures, more than 1.2 million adults were receiving PIP for musculoskeletal conditions at the end of January 2026.

It is important to note that, for those in Scotland, Adult Disability Payment (ADP) has now replaced all new and existing PIP claims. Individuals over 16 and under the state pension age may be able to claim PIP or ADP to help with a musculoskeletal condition.

A successful claim for PIP or ADP is worth between £30.30 and £194.60 each week in additional financial support, and as the benefit is paid every four weeks, this amounts to between £121.20 and £778.40 every payment period.

The average processing time for new PIP claims is 16 weeks which means applications submitted this month could be processed – and back payments issued – by the end of August. New claims for ADP currently take just over 11 weeks on average to process, so a new claim submitted this month could be processed by the end of July, Daily Record reports.
