Trump rages at Norway over Nobel Peace Prize snub as fears for NATO grow | World | News
Donald Trump has shared yet another message on Truth Social in which he claimed to have ended eight wars and saved “millions of lives”. The US president took to his social media platform to slam NATO and its “big fans”, accusing them of not paying enough into the Western military alliance “until I came along”.
He wrote: “Remember, for all of those big NATO fans, they were at 2% GDP, and most weren’t paying their bills, UNTIL I CAME ALONG. The USA was, foolishly, paying for them! I, respectfully, got them to 5% GDP, AND THEY PAY, immediately. Everyone said that couldn’t be done, but it could, because, beyond all else, they are all my friends.”
Mr Trump then reiterated his claim to have ended multiple conflicts around the world and ended his message by saying the US is the “only nation” feared by China and Russia.
In his post, he also hit out at Norway for, he said, choosing not to award him the Nobel Peace Prize. He continued: “Without my involvement, Russia would have ALL OF UKRAINE right now. Remember, also, I single-handedly ENDED 8 WARS, and Norway, a NATO Member, foolishly chose not to give me the Noble Peace Prize.
“But that doesn’t matter! What does matter is that I saved Millions of Lives. RUSSIA AND CHINA HAVE ZERO FEAR OF NATO WITHOUT THE UNITED STATES, AND I DOUBT NATO WOULD BE THERE FOR US IF WE REALLY NEEDED THEM.
“EVERYONE IS LUCKY THAT I REBUILT OUR MILITARY IN MY FIRST TERM, AND CONTINUE TO DO SO. We will always be there for NATO, even if they won’t be there for us.
“The only Nation that China and Russia fear and respect is the DJT REBUILT U.S.A. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!! President DJT”
This rant comes amid Mr Trump’s continued pushes to take Greenland from Denmark, and a statement from the White House in which his administration refused to rule out the use of force should it come down to it.
The US president claims it is in the interest of his country’s national security to “acquire” the world’s largest island, according to a White House statement shared with Reuters.
It read: “President Trump has made it well known that acquiring Greenland is a national security priority of the United States, and it’s vital to deter our adversaries in the Arctic region.
“The president and his team are discussing a range of options to pursue this important foreign policy goal, and of course, utilizing the U.S. military is always an option at the commander-in-chief’s disposal.”
On Monday, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen suggested a US attack on another NATO member would amount to the end of the alliance.
She said: “If the United States chooses to attack another NATO country militarily, then everything stops. That is, including our NATO and thus the security that has been provided since the end of the Second World War.”
