Boots £30 skincare beauty bag is worth £105 – review

Boots has become a bit of a go-to destination for its seasonal beauty boxes, with something for all occasions. They drop special edits throughout the year – like their Valentine’s Day Edit or themed collections such as the sell-out Korean Skincare edit. They’re not the only ones with beauty boxes on offer, of course, with LookFantastic, Marks and Spencer and Next all putting out their own curated makeup and skincare collections. But Boots seems to be operating at a different pace lately, churning out beauty edits packed with big-name brands for a fraction of the usual price.

Now that spring is here, the brand has released yet another beauty edit to match the season – but this one comes with a bit of a twist. Instead of the usual cardboard box that so many beauty edits arrive in, this one is packaged inside a pretty pink cosmetics bag. It’s the kind of detail I genuinely appreciate because it doesn’t just feel like packaging; it’s something I know I’ll re-use as a makeup bag or a toiletries pouch when I’m travelling.

However, it’s the savings that really stand out here. According to Boots, the value of the contents inside adds up to a massive £105.20 if you were to buy everything separately. In reality, shoppers will pay just £30 for the Spring Edit, which works out as a saving of £75.20.

If that alone doesn’t tempt you, the brand lineup might. Inside, there’s a mix of big names, including Curel, the Inkey List, Cetaphil, Biome and RoC. In total, there are 11 skincare items, and six of them are full-size, which immediately made me feel like this was more than just a sample-heavy set.

Shoppers have already been raving about the beauty bag, with one customer saying: “Boots you really outdone yourself with this one. Perfect products, lovely samples, the bag is lovely quality too!”

However, one shopper was disappointed that some of the more luxurious skincare items were not full-size. They said: “The bag has some nice bits, but it isn’t worth it. I was aware there would be deluxe sizes, but they’re so small that you can’t use them enough to make an informed decision about purchasing the product in the regular size.”

So, with all of this in mind, I took on the very important task of opening the bag to see whether it really is worth spending your money on. And spoiler alert: this beauty edit might be one of my favourites that I’ve opened so far.

As mentioned previously, the Boots Spring Skincare Edit comes packed in a gorgeous faux-leather, pale-pink makeup bag that feels very on-brand for spring. The gold zip adds a slightly luxe touch, and the top handle makes it practical. I can already see myself using it day to day or throwing it into a suitcase for a summer holiday. It also comes wrapped in a cute sleeve with Hello Spring branding, decorated with floral illustrations in soft pastel shades, making it a great gift. You don’t even need to bother wrapping it.

Of the 11 items inside, I was genuinely pleased to see that six are full-size. As a shopping editor, I’ve opened more beauty boxes than I can count – both from Boots and its competitors – and it’s not unusual to find edits with as few as three full-size products. So, getting six here feels like a win.

What stood out to me most, though, is how versatile the product mix is. This isn’t one of those overly niche edits where half the items only suit a specific skin type. Recently, my skin has become a bit more sensitive, so I’ve had to be quite selective with what I use. I was relieved to find that most of the formulas here are gentle, suitable for a range of skin types, and thankfully not overly fragranced. Of course, everyone’s skin is different, so a patch test is always best before using any products.

One of my favourite items in the set has to be the BYOMA Blemish Control Moisturiser, which is a full-size 50ml. It comes in the brand’s instantly recognisable colourful packaging and is designed to hydrate and soothe acne-prone skin while tackling active breakouts and helping reduce blemish marks. I really like that it’s oil-free and lightweight – it sinks in nicely without leaving a heavy or greasy feeling that some moisturisers can cause.

There’s also a full-size bottle of the INKEY List Hydrating Milk Cleanser, which I was excited to see. It’s another gentle formula that turns milky when mixed with water, making it perfect for removing makeup and SPF at the end of the day. Considering it’s worth £13 on its own, it already accounts for nearly half the price of the entire bag.

Then there’s a packet of 72 pimple patches from The Breakout Hack in a mix of sizes. I hadn’t tried this brand before, but I’m someone who always has pimple patches on hand. They’re just so easy to throw in a bag for travel or keep nearby for those unexpected breakouts. The variety of sizes is a nice touch, and at £12 each, they add even more value. When I added up just these three items, I realised I’d already surpassed the £30 price tag, which definitely made the whole edit feel even more worthwhile.

And that’s not even everything. There are two full-size lip products: the Boots Lip Sleeping Mask and the Vaseline Gluta-Hya Lip Serum Gloss Rosy Pink. I already own the Boots Lip Sleeping Mask in vanilla from a previous box, and I have to say, it reminds me a lot (and I mean a lot) of the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask. That one has been sitting on my wishlist for ages, but at £21 a pot, I’ve never quite justified the splurge. By contrast, the Boots lip mask is just £4.50 on its own. This grape version is just as nourishing, with a thick, soft formula that gives my lips some much-needed TLC. The Vaseline gloss, on the other hand, is lighter with a subtle nude tint, but still has that classic soothing quality you’d expect.

The final full-size product is the Biore UV Aqua Rich Water Essence Sunscreen with SPF30, which feels like a must-have for everyday wear, especially as the weather warms up. What I like most is that it doesn’t leave behind a greasy film, so it layers nicely under makeup.

There are also some big names in the smaller sizes, including two Cetaphil products designed to work across all skin types. The real standout for me, though, is the Curel Duo, which includes a 4g tester of the Intensive Moisture Facial Cream and an 8g tester of the Hydrating Water Essence. At full size, these products are priced at £22.50 and £17.50, so having the chance to try them in smaller amounts feels like a low-risk way to see if they’re worth the investment.

Rounding things off are a couple of travel-sized extras: Haru Haru Wonder’s Black Rice Probiotics Barrier Essence and RoC’s Line Smoothing Eye Cream, both of which add a nice finishing touch to what already feels like a very well-rounded edit.
