Thomas Frank makes clear statement on Tottenham future with boss facing sack | Football | Sport
Thomas Frank has vowed to battle on as Tottenham manager despite mounting pressure on his position. Frank’s future hangs in the balance with Tuesday’s Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund potentially marking his final match at the helm. Senior figures at Spurs are considering a managerial change following just one victory in the last eight matches, whilst supporters have grown increasingly frustrated with the embattled boss.
But ahead of the clash with Dortmund, Frank said: “I think if your back is against the wall, you fight. And that’s what I do. I’m energetic, I fight. And again, it’s not about me. We need to win football matches. And we need to win football matches together. And that’s what it’s all about.” The Danish manager has faced growing scrutiny, with Saturday’s home loss to West Ham appearing to seal his fate.
Spurs are grappling with a devastating injury crisis, with a remarkable 13 players unavailable for the Dortmund encounter, whilst their Champions League qualification hopes remain in jeopardy.
Joao Palhinha has become the latest casualty on the treatment table, whilst Micky van de Ven’s suspension compounds Tottenham‘s difficulties ahead of facing Dortmund, who sit second in the Bundesliga behind Bayern Munich.
However, Frank remains defiant, insisting his fighting spirit demonstrates he hasn’t surrendered and believes he can reverse the club’s fortunes.
Frank stated: “I think being up for the fight is to get up every morning very early, coming in, preparing and doing everything we can to turn every stone to make sure we are well prepared every single time we go on the pitch, push the staff, push the players, have demands, loads of small conversations, meetings, push everything.
“I think that is part of it and ready for the fight is also that you keep going. You don’t feel sorry for yourself when things are tough. You put things into a bigger perspective and you do everything you can.
“I am more than happy to take all the blame as long as I protect the players and they back the players everyone, including fans and journalists.
“I just keep doing what I am doing. I am not in doubt that is the right thing, I am not in doubt that will turn but of course we need to win more football matches.”
