Horror as plane crashes into house with wing hanging out of roof | World | News

One person died and a second was reported missing after a small plane crashed into a home in northern Germany. The small plane lost altitude and crashed into the roof of a single-family home in a residential neighbourhood in Ganderkesee in Lower Saxony, police in the nearby city of Oldenburg said. An investigation is ongoing to establish the cause of the crash.

According to the police, the plane was carrying two people. One person died in the crash, and rescue operations were launched to find the missing person, German news agency dpa reported. It is not yet known if the person who died in the crash was the pilot of the small plane.

The same agency said the occupants of the house were not home at the time of the crash. After the crash, residents within a radius of 100 meters of the incident site were evacuated from their homes, and for safety reasons, power was cut off temporarily along the entire length of the road where the house is located. No other injuries were reported.

The building is now potentially at risk of collapse, authorities also said. Immediately after the crash yesterday, air traffic in the area was suspended while emergency services used drones as part of their response. A contact point for residents was also set up at a nearby shooting range.

The aircraft was a single-engine, four-seater light aircraft manufactured by the Italian company Tecnam. Those aircraft are approximately 7.5m long and have a wingspan of 10.5m.

Emergency services recovered the aircraft using a crane after an operation that lasted several hours. Firefighters were also at the scene, as well as a structural engineer from the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) who attended to assess the building.
