David and Brooklyn Beckham question asked to manager after Chelsea loss | Football | Sport

Pafos manager Albert Celades appeared puzzled when questioned about the rift between David and Brooklyn Beckham, following his team’s loss to Chelsea. Celades had nearly steered the Cypriot outfit to a remarkable outcome at Stamford Bridge before Moises Caicedo secured triumph for the Blues.

Yet instead of his press conference concentrating on the match, Celades, who played alongside Beckham at Real Madrid, faced an entirely unexpected enquiry. Celades was questioned whether he’d been keeping up with the controversy surrounding the former England captain and his son.

Brooklyn’s discontent revolves around David and Victoria’s purported efforts to “ruin” his marriage with wife Nicola Peltz and he maintains he felt he had “no choice but to speak… and tell the truth” about the family dispute.

Unsurprisingly, Celades appeared somewhat taken aback and uneasy with the enquiry. The 50-year-old Spaniard began his playing days with Barcelona before spending five years with Real Madrid, while Beckham was at the Bernabeu.

The Pafos boss offered a brief response to the reporter, recognising the question bore no connection to the match that had unfolded and that he preferred not to comment regarding the family dispute.

Celades is only a fortnight into his tenure with Pafos, having succeeded Juan Carlos Carcedo, though he had previously savoured triumph in west London.

The Spaniard steered Valencia to victory against Frank Lampard’s squad in 2019.

The former Spain international was unable to deploy ex-Chelsea defender David Luiz on Wednesday evening, yet found himself confronted with a link from his own history with Beckham dominating headlines.

Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior avoided such scrutiny and could concentrate on his team’s development after assuming control following Enzo Maresca’s departure. Despite securing three victories from his opening four fixtures, Rosenior must still convince the fanbase.

“I just have to keep focusing on the job, which is try to win as many games as possible,” he said. “Yeah, I can’t affect what people prejudge me as or prejudge things that are happening.

“Well, from my point of view, I’m very excited for the future of the club with the squad that we have, the youth of the squad, how much it can improve. And with small things and little tweaks and little improvements, I think this team can go a long way.

“I would love the fans to be with us and to be with me. But to do that, I need to earn that. It’s two-way.”
