England rocked by Six Nations blow ahead of Scotland Calcutta Cup clash | Rugby | Sport

England have suffered a significant injury setback with winger Immanuel Feyi-Waboso set to miss the remainder of the Six Nations due to injury. The 23-year-old Cardiff-born star was ruled out of his team’s 48-7 thrashing of Wales at Twickenham on Saturday, missing the chance to play against his birth country after sustaining a hamstring injury in training two days prior. According to a report from RugbyPass, he now looks likely to miss this weekend’s Calcutta Cup clash with Scotland as well as the rest of the tournament.

The report suggests that sources within the England camp have indicated it’s not good news for Feyi-Waboso, leaving head coach Steve Borthwick with another major decision to make for the remainder of the tournament. The Exeter Chiefs player has earned 13 international caps since choosing to represent England over Wales ahead of the 2024 Six Nations and started all four autumn Tests for Borthwick’s side, scoring against both Fiji and Argentina during the campaign.

He has also been performing exceptionally well at club level, with nine tries in 13 matches this season, including a hat-trick against Newcastle Red Bulls in October.

However, it appears his Six Nations journey is over after being withdrawn from training on Thursday, with England assistant Tom Harrison explaining at the time: “[Manny] pulled out of training in the last 60 seconds and unfortunately won’t be available this weekend.

“He sustained a pulled muscle in the leg area. Does it disrupt some plans? Yes, it does because it’s changing a player. But we’ve done everything we can to make sure the next player is ready.”

Following Feyi-Waboso’s withdrawal, Borthwick called up Sale Sharks star Tom Roebuck, who was himself returning from injury.

He crossed the line against Wales early in the second half as he featured in his first England match since breaking his toe against New Zealand in the autumn.

Nevertheless, Borthwick must now determine whether to persist with the Inverness-born star ahead of his side’s Calcutta Cup encounter with Scotland this weekend, or introduce someone fresh.

The England boss may choose to recall Elliot Daly or shift Tommy Freeman onto the wing, with the Northampton Saints back completing Saturday’s match at Twickenham out wide.

He will be strengthened by the return of Ollie Lawrence, with the Bath man expected to recover from a knee injury in time for the Scotland match, where he could partner Fraser Dingwall in midfield.
