Iran war LIVE: Kharg Island ‘under fresh attack’ after Trump’s chilling warning | World | News
A US official said the American military carried out overnight strikes on dozens of Iranian military targets on Kharg Island.
The operation involved airstrikes along the northern side of the island and did not include any US troops on the ground. According to the official, the strikes targeted military bunkers and storage sites, air defence systems and other military facilities, rather than oil infrastructure.
The official said all of the sites hit were military targets, many of which had already been struck previously. On March 13, President Donald Trump said the US had “totally obliterated every MILITARY target in Iran’s crown jewel, Kharg Island”.
Kharg Island is a major oil export hub for Iran and has previously been discussed as a possible location for a US ground operation.
The official emphasised that the latest action was not aimed at oil facilities, ahead of Trump’s deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or face attacks on its infrastructure.
