Liverpool news: Manager’s Anfield ‘dream’ as Slot under sack pressure | Football | Sport
The summer transfer window is set to be a pivotal one for Liverpool as they seek to regain momentum following a season to forget. The Reds recorded their lowest points total in over a decade but nonetheless secured Champions League football on the final day.
For the moment, though, we have one eye on arrivals as well as departures. Here are Express Sport’s latest updates from around Anfield.
Manager reveals Liverpool ambition
Lens manager Pierre Sage has been linked with numerous positions following his side’s unexpected second-place finish in Ligue 1. He appears to be remaining in situ for now, but a switch to Anfield would represent a dream for the 47-year-old.
Sage, who arrived at Lens last summer, has a three-year contract and indicates he intends to be at the helm for next season’s Champions League campaign.
Yet when pressed by Telefoot on his dream position, Liverpool’s name emerged. Lens turned to Sage, who was dismissed by Lyon in January 2025, after finishing eighth in the previous campaign under Will Still.
Aided by some astute signings, including leading scorer Odsonne Edouard, Les Sang et Or ended up just six points adrift of champions Paris Saint-Germain and claimed the Coupe de France title with victory over Nice in the final.
Dumfries move back on the table
Liverpool’s pursuit of Jeremie Frimpong last summer has not prevented them from keeping close tabs on his compatriot Denzel Dumfries.
Inter Milan defender Dumfries, who has two years remaining on his current deal, is understood to have a release clause worth just under £22million — a figure the Reds appear prepared to meet.
According to reports emerging from Italy, Liverpool are working towards a summer move, having failed to complete a transfer during the winter window. The full-back, 30, has also been linked with a switch to Barcelona, should the Catalan side decide to offload Jules Kounde.
Dumfries has been at Inter since 2021 and made his 200th appearance for the club this season. He also started six of the Netherlands’ eight World Cup qualifying fixtures, netting against Finland and Poland.
