West Ham have no intention of rushing into a sale of Crysencio Summerville despite the crushing blow of dropping down to the Championship. Manchester United are the latest club to register their interest in the Dutchman, who marked his World Cup debut with a goal on Sunday during an enthralling 2-2 draw with Japan in Dallas.
Summerville’s value has soared significantly since January, when Tottenham were also weighing up a move for the former Leeds United winger. Yet several clubs, including Champions League winners PSG, are now looking to exploit West Ham’s predicament and are hopeful of landing him at a knockdown price.
West Ham insiders insist that will not be happening, and the club are perfectly content to wait until after the World Cup before entering transfer negotiations.
There is, however, a growing acknowledgement that holding on to the player this summer will prove challenging, though the club will not be pressured into a hasty sale – a stance that equally applies to fellow United target Mateus Fernandes.
Both players have had their wages reduced due to clauses in their contracts triggered by West Ham’s relegation, yet they are widely expected to depart.
The club’s new largest shareholder, Daniel Kretinsky, has insisted the Irons are under no obligation to offload their prized assets, and there remains a possibility that skipper Jarrod Bowen could remain and feature in the Championship next season.
West Ham would require a fee in the region of £45million before considering any deal for Summerville, while Portuguese midfielder Fernandes carries a valuation of around £80m, with Real Madrid and Arsenal among those circling.
The Gunners are unwilling to meet that valuation and have stepped back in recent days, leaving United as frontrunners provided Real Madrid do not enter the race.
Tottenham are searching for a new winger for Roberto De Zerbi and unofficial talks are ongoing with Manchester City regarding a potential move for Savinho.
Liverpool are also seeking a new left-sided forward and previously monitored Summerville back in 2024, though it is unclear whether they will make a formal approach. They are another competitor United must be wary of.
United are understood to be considering several alternative targets including Iliman Ndiaye and Morgan Rogers, but Summerville would be considerably cheaper than both.
