Ex-Man Utd duo Hojlund and McTominay set for change as decision made | Football | Sport
Former Manchester United stars Scott McTominay and Rasmus Hojlund are poised for a significant change at Napoli following Antonio Conte’s exit from the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. Ex-Juventus and AC Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri has reportedly reached an agreement to succeed Conte at Napoli.
The 58-year-old was dismissed by AC Milan after missing out on Champions League qualification, but will not have to wait long before his return to management. Allegri will reportedly pen a two-year contract as Conte’s replacement, according to Sky Sports, though the appointment has not been well received by Napoli supporters.
Certain Gli Azzurri fans are unhappy with the decision and have initiated an online campaign in protest. They argue Allegri’s managerial credentials do not match the club’s ambitions, having last secured the Serie A championship in 2018 with Juventus.
Despite winning numerous trophies in his career, Allegri’s most recent tenure at Milan ended badly and there has been a wholesale transformation at the Italian outfit since his exit just a few days ago.
McTominay has been among the most impressive performers in Serie A since his transfer to Napoli from United in 2024, contributing to the club’s Serie A triumph in his debut campaign.
His impressive displays in Italy have sparked transfer speculation, with the Scottish international being linked with a return to the Premier League – and Conte’s exit will only add further fuel to those rumours.
McTominay was joined in Italy last season by former United teammate Hojlund, yet the pair were unable to help the club retain their Serie A crown.
Napoli finished as runners-up, 11 points adrift of champions Inter Milan. Hojlund featured at the southern Italian club on loan, though his switch is set to be made permanent for £38 million.
United had agreed an obligation-to-buy clause on the Danish forward, which would see the transfer completed should Napoli secure Champions League qualification.
While the deal is yet to be formally confirmed, Hojlund is anticipated to finalise his move to Napoli within the coming weeks. Conte’s departure from the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona is not expected to have any bearing on the transfer’s progression.
