Ederson to Man Utd announcement timeline as transfer agreement reached | Football | Sport

Manchester United have reached an agreement foe Atalanta midfielder Ederson, with the club hoping to announce the transfer early next month.

United have been heavily linked with the 26-year-old ahead of the summer transfer as they look to strengthen their midfield options. An agreement of a €40.5million (£35m) fixed fee plus €4.5m (£3.9m) in potential add-ons.

Personal terms have already been agreed between United and the midfielder, but he still needs to undergo a medical ahead of completing a move. It’s added that all parties hope to complete the switch in early July.

The 26-year-old’s contract situation at Atlanta has helped United to agree a deal at a significantly lower price than what may have previously been mentioned. He has just one year remaining on his deal with the Italian side, meaning he could have left for nothing in 12 months.

While Ederson was part of Brazil manager Carlo Ancelotti’s original 55-man squad for the upcoming World Cup, he did not make the final 26-man squad for the trip to North America. That will free him up to make the move to Old Trafford earlier than he may have done had he been involved in the tournament.

The main area of concentration in the window will be midfield, as the club prepares for Champions League football next season. As well as Ederson, United have been linked with potential moves for West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes, Newcastle‘s Sandro Tonali and Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson.

As well as midfield, United are also looking to strengthen in wide areas and full-back and at centre-back in what looks like a busy summer transfer window for the club.

When he signed for Atalanta, Ederson explained what could be expected of him. “My features are the ability to keep the ball, and the strength,” he said.

“I can play both defensive and attacking football. I find it easy to attack the space.

He added: “I am a physical player, I need to be fit now to help the team. I will work hard to be ready.”
