Mohamed Salah can complete Premier League transfer today | Football | Sport

Mohamed Salah can finally fulfil the wishes of a Premier League icon and seal a “selfish” move away from Liverpool when he officially becomes a free agent today. The Egyptian attacker has officially left Anfield after reaching an agreement with the Reds to tear up his contract 12 months before it was originally set to run out.

Salah’s exit brings down the curtain on a stellar nine-year stint on Merseyside. He scored 257 goals across all competitions and played a pivotal role in the Liverpool team that secured the Premier League title twice and claimed Champions League glory during one of the most triumphant eras in the club’s modern history. However, his final season was marred by a public dispute with manager Arne Slot, who was replaced at the end of the campaign by former Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola.

Focus has now shifted to Salah’s next destination, with a lucrative switch to the Saudi Pro League widely regarded as the most likely outcome.

Yet no deal has been confirmed, with Salah currently representing Egypt at the World Cup in North America.

That uncertainty leaves the door open for a sensational Premier League transfer, something that would thrill Chelsea legend Didier Drogba.

Back in 2021, Salah found himself embroiled in a protracted contract dispute with Liverpool before ultimately committing to fresh terms worth in excess of £350,000 per week.

Prior to that extension being finalised, Drogba called on his former club to mount a stunning swoop to bring the winger back to Stamford Bridge.

Drogba told Al-Axis TV: “If I am selfish, I will tell Salah to leave Liverpool and return to Chelsea. My opinion is that Salah will remain the best, no matter if he continues at Liverpool or if he moves.

“Any other team would perform better [with him] because he understands what he is doing, is good at scoring and creating goals, and only needs the confidence of the coach.

“I do not know what his decision would be. This is his decision alone and his future, but wherever he goes, I will be one of his fans.”

Salah initially joined Chelsea from Swiss outfit Basel in January 2014 in a transfer worth approximately £11million.

Yet his stint in west London never really took off, with Salah featuring in just 13 league games before loan moves to Fiorentina and Roma.
