Man Utd ‘medical booked’ for new signing as Red Devils prepare announcement | Football | Sport

Manchester United will officially confirm Cristian Orozco’s arrival once his transfer is finalised this month. Last year, the Red Devils reached an initial agreement with Fortaleza CEIF which stipulated that Orozco would complete his move during the summer window.

Orozco will turn 18 on July 13, the date when United can officially register him as a player. The midfielder will touch down in Manchester ahead of that date in order to settle in and be prepared to begin on the 13th. Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra recently reported that Orozco would travel to the UK on Sunday and undergo a medical with United. The Reds announced comparable signings of Sekou Kone, Diego Leon and Enzo Kana-Biyik last year.

The Red Devils announced comparable signings of Sekou Kone, Diego Leon and Enzo Kana-Biyik last year. Kone and Leon both featured for the under-21s following their arrivals from clubs in Mali and Paraguay respectively.

Kana-Biyik was promptly loaned out to Ineos-owned Lausanne Sport, though he joined from France.

Having progressed through Le Havre’s academy, Kana-Biyik already possessed experience of European football which allowed him to be loaned out.

Kone and Leon, meanwhile, were afforded time to adjust after arriving from different continents.

Orozco is expected to require a similar period of adaptation as he settles into life in Manchester following his switch from Colombia. United will arrange English lessons for the teenager.

United are recruiting Orozco because they believe he has first-team potential, though Kone, Leon and Kana-Biyik were all regarded in the same light, and none have been handed their first-team debuts at United thus far.

The club’s recent recruitment of talented young players from overseas is widely regarded as a low-risk, high-reward strategy.

United have broadened their academy scouting network in recent years as a direct consequence of Brexit regulations, which restrict them from signing players from within Europe.

Orozco featured regularly in Fortaleza CEIF’s first-team setup last season. He was named in 11 senior squads, making two substitute appearances in Colombia’s top-flight, as well as two starts.
