Aldi shoppers urged to look for hidden ‘code’ on labels

Aldi customers have been advised to keep an eye out for a subtle code on the supermarket’s price labels to determine whether a product is soon to be discontinued. Savvy bargain hunter Jordan Cox — widely known as Britain’s Coupon Kid on Instagram — has revealed that Aldi shoppers may be able to identify whether an item is about to be pulled from shelves by spotting a “secret code” tucked into the corner of its price tag.

The money-saving guru claims that a ‘D’ symbol appearing in the top right corner of an Aldi price label is a tell-tale sign that the product will not be restocked once it sells out, reports Manchester Evening News. Posting the tip on Instagram, Jordan said: “On pricing labels, if you see a ‘D’ in the top right corner, that item’s being discontinued. So when the shelf is cleared, they won’t be restocking!

“You’ll often find this on specialbuys and limited time items, but sometimes you’ll see this around other places in the shop too! If it’s something you want, and it’s a good deal – stock up before it’s sold out.”

He added: “Could save you a bit of money … or turn your supermarket shopping into a bit of a game.”

Since sharing the advice online, many shoppers have been expressing their frustration at not knowing about the hack earlier. On Instagram, one shopper, Sarah Golding-Keanne, wrote: “I wish I knew that yesterday.”

Another shopper, Dorothy, also commented: “Ohhh I wish I knew this before they discontinued the rocky road bites. They were one of their best cakes.”

However, some customers suggested they were already well aware of the handy shopping tip.

One shopper, Steven, who appeared to already know about the hidden code, commented: “It’s not a secret!”
