Liverpool defender Andy Robertson says he’ll reach a major decision on his future before the World Cup – and remained tight-lipped on a potential switch to Celtic. The left-back is out of contract this summer and appears set to conclude a trophy-laden nine-year spell at Anfield. He’s been linked with numerous top clubs across Europe, as well as boyhood club Celtic.
Robertson has revealed that he’ll announce his destination before Scotland travels to America. But he declined to confirm whether a sensational move to Parkhead could be on his radar.
Robertson said: “Will I make a decision before the World Cup? Yeah, that will definitely happen. For me, I will make up my mind before the summer and it’s always been in my head that I don’t want it hanging over me.
“I think that’s important, I don’t think anyone wants that and everyone would be in the same boat.
“If you’re out of contract and sign a new contract, or whatever you’re doing – you always want that sorted before you go into a big tournament.
“I have always worked towards that and have been consistent with it. It’s only eight or nine weeks, so from now until the end I’ll sit down with my family and see what we want.
“After that we’ll deal with whatever comes and take it from there.
“It’s not really one to talk about (Celtic). Obviously I was at Celtic as a kid and had a season ticket, that’s not a secret, but it’s not something I really want to get into.
“The options that are on the table for me at the minute will stay private and that’s the way I’ve always done it.
“People can talk and there’s been a lot of talk around it, where I’m going to go next. I’ve seen it but I stay away from it all now. Me and my wife have had a good laugh about some of it.
“Let’s see what happens, what the next destination is and take it from there.”
Meanwhile, Robertson admits representing Scotland has lifted his spirits during a difficult season at Liverpool.

The captain hasn’t been first-choice left-back at Anfield this term following the arrival of Milos Kerkez.
It’s been a hugely disappointing campaign for Arne Slot‘s side, who won’t retain their Premier League title.
Robertson has been used sparingly by the Dutch manager and the Scotland captain says turning out for his country has been a lifeline.
Particularly as he helped guide Steve Clarke’s side to World Cup qualification for the first time in 28 years.
He said: “Scotland duty has kept me going at times this season. I can safely say that.
“Especially at the start when we had games in September, October, November, it was really important for me.
“We were playing in such big games so it gave me something to focus on and be a part of.
“When you’re playing lots of games at club level, sometimes your mind can wander. But Scotland has been a big focus for me this season and I’ve enjoyed every game.”
Robertson should earn his 91st cap against Japan this weekend, equalling Jim Leighton’s tally as Scotland’s second-most capped player of all time.
If he overtakes the legendary goalkeeper, only Kenny Dalglish will stand between him and the summit.
