Arsenal learn Champions League final opponents as Bukayo Saka wish granted | Football | Sport
The final whistle sparked jubilant scenes around the Emirates Stadium as Arsenal reached the final for the first time in 20 years. The squad would have been watching the second leg of the other semi-final with keen interest as they waited to find out who they would face.
When quizzed on CBS Sports on Tuesday evening about his preferred opponents in the final, Saka said: “Come on, man… you can’t ask me that. I’d have to give a media-trained answer.”
Pressed further on the matter, he added: “You know deep down who we’d want to face in the final.”
While deliberately cryptic, the response has led supporters to speculate he had PSG in mind, with Arsenal eager for revenge against the French giants.
PSG knocked Arsenal out of the competition at the semi-final stage this time last year, triumphing 3-1 on aggregate.
It was PSG who held a narrow advantage heading into the second leg against Bayern at the Allianz Arena, having won a memorable first leg 5-4.
PSG extended their advantage as early as the third minute when Ousmane Dembele struck to make it 1-0 on the night and 6-4 on aggregate.
Having seized control, the French giants defended with real determination to keep the likes of Harry Kane, Michael Olise and Luis Diaz at bay and silence a raucous home crowd.
Kane did manage to hand Bayern a late lifeline in added time, pulling the aggregate score back to 6-5.
However, it proved insufficient time for the German side to find the equaliser they desperately needed.
Their elimination means PSG progress to a second consecutive Champions League final.
Luis Enrique’s side claimed the trophy for the first time last season, thrashing Inter 5-0 in a dominant display.
The showpiece final between Arsenal and PSG will be held at the Puskas Arena in Budapest on Saturday, 30 May.
