Arsenal ‘working on six transfers’ including Morgan Rogers as £55m bid submitted | Football | Sport
Arsenal are reportedly pursuing as many as six transfer targets barely a fortnight into the summer window. The north Londoners have already wrapped up the permanent acquisition of Piero Hincapie, with their transfer activity expected to gather significant momentum throughout July. This summer’s recruitment drive is being spearheaded by sporting director Andrea Berta and head of scouting Maurizio Micheli.
Arsenal‘s deep run in the Champions League, which kept their season going until the very last possible moment, combined with the ongoing World Cup, has contributed to the relative quiet on the arrivals front, according to football.london. Nevertheless, work behind the scenes is said to be well advanced.
The Daily Mail note that there is an established pattern under Berta of conducting several negotiations simultaneously.
This is referenced in relation to the Gunners reportedly holding discussions over Morgan Rogers, while also preparing to test whether Paris Saint-Germain are truly unwilling to part with Bradley Barcola.
Arsenal are said to have a genuine interest in both players, alongside Bruno Guimaraes, for whom they have reportedly already submitted a £55million bid.
The club are also said to have made enquiries regarding Alex Scott and held talks with the representatives of Kerim Alajbegovic.
Christos Tzolis, who has reportedly been made available to the club, is another player Arsenal are said to be genuinely keen on.
Of those six players being monitored, Alajbegovic, Barcola, Guimaraes and Rogers are currently still involved with their respective nations at the World Cup.
Scott also trained with England ahead of the tournament, while Tzolis featured for Greece in a pair of friendlies early last month.
It comes just weeks after Mikel Arteta challenged the club to improve even further following their Champions League final defeat.
The manager said: “We will start the process to review what we’ve done.
“If you want to reach another level, we’re going to have to show that ambition because we are more than capable of doing it, but it demands to be very, very ambitious, very fast and very smart.
“We need to do better, to improve and find different margins to get the outcome.”
