BBC legend announces exit to rival as they issue emotional statement | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV


BBC South West weather presenter Alex Osborne has been flooded with support after announcing she is departing the broadcaster. The star, who began her BBC career in 2010 as a Live Event Showcase Presenter, is jumping ship to rival ITV. She took to X to share the career update writing: “…And the ‘news’ is…. I’m going to @ITV! Will be sad to leave after years at the BBC, but excited for the next chapter as a journalist… 4th May, my last day!”

 

She was flooded with support on the post with friends and fans keen to congtratulate the Scartho, Grimsby native. “Good luck, Alex! Sad to lose you from the Beeb – it was always fun with you on Somerset Breakfast. Best of luck with everything,” one penned. “Sad news for those of us who so enjoy your work on the beeb, but good luck you have I’m sure so much more to give. Be sure to let us know where we can find you,” another added.

A third chimed in: “Good luck Alex! I know you’ll smash it. Will you be on Westcountry?” A fourth gushed: “Good luck Alex! You’ll be fab at ITV!”

A fifth simply commented: “Good luck sad to see you go.” Meanwhile a sixth penned: “Good luck I hope all goes well for you, Enjoy.”

Before landing her role as a weather presenter Alex held many roles with the broadcaster. She has worked as a Travel Presenter and Entertainment Reporter on BBC Radio Devon, an Assistant Producer/Researcher on BBC Radio 3 and a Production Assistant for BBC Factual Television.

She has also lent her journalistic talents to several special reports during her time with the Beeb.

Away from TV Alex is also a talented violinist who plays with the Steampunk Orchestra. Her rendition of the BBC News theme tune on violin and has had over 10,000 views on Twitter.

Her musical prowess ensured she was the other side of the headlines as she used her talents to uplift her grandparents and others during the difficult time.

She performed a special show for her grandparents Colin and Iris Osborne at Lindsey Hall Home in Cleethorpes playing a moving piece of work called Ashokan Farewell while standing in her flat overlooking Plymouth harbour.

She also collaborated with a band playing It’s Raining Men by The Weather Girls at a one of the Clap for Carers events at the Cleethorpes nursing home. At the time the presenter told Grimsby Live: “I’m just trying to create a bit of joy and light in the challenging times we’re in.”
