Bryson DeChambeau’s PGA Championship preparation questioned | Golf | Sport
Bryson DeChambeau faced online backlash after the LIV Golf star uploaded a YouTube video shortly before taking part in the PGA Championship. The 32-year-old boasts 2.7million YouTube subscribers and shared footage of his preparation for the major.
DeChambeau recently competed in LIV Golf Virginia at Trump National Golf Club ahead of the PGA Championship. Crushers GC subsequently shared a promotional video featuring the player during the opening practice day of the PGA Championship. “New Course Record Attempt!” Crushers GC posted on social media. “Bryson preps for the PGA Championship by taking on Cedar Crest Golf Course. Do you think Bryson can break the record?” However, fans questioned why the two-time US Open champion had devoted time to a public golf course before a major.
Reacting to the footage, one fan wrote: “Preps for a major at your local muni. Literally Happy Gilmore”. Another remarked: “He’s an unserious player now. He just plays for clicks and clout.”
DeChambeau employed a similar tactic before the Masters, playing a ‘Mini Augusta’ prior to travelling to Georgia. However, he missed the cut at the year’s opening major, with supporters now questioning why he’s risked repeating the same mistake.
“Bryson getting ready for a major championship at a public course,” one posted with a crying emoji, and another sarcastically wrote: “I’m being told this is exactly how Tiger would prepare for majors.”
Yet many of DeChambeau’s followers also flocked to the comment section to heap praise on the LIV star, expressing enthusiasm for his video. “Thank you Bryson! We love the content. Keep it coming!” wrote one person. “Good luck at the pga championship. I’ll be watching ya.”
Another added: “I really like this series! The way you talk about the strategy, types of shots etc. Great insights!”
DeChambeau has since arrived at Aronimink as he bids to win his maiden PGA Championship title.
“It’s one of the most important things, golf course setups and how they feel from week in to week out,” said DeChambeau at LIV Golf Virginia, referring to course setups. “If you’re going from a golf course that’s a little slower to super fast greens, it can be a little diabolical to figure it out.
“It’s nice to prep on a golf course that feels quite similar and will give us a good feel going into next week.”
