Casemiro sends Man Utd message as feelings made clear after agreement | Football | Sport
Casemiro has delivered a heartfelt message to Manchester United supporters as his expected departure from the club draws ever nearer. The Brazilian revealed earlier this year that he would be bringing his United career to a close at the end of the season when his deal runs out.
Speculation has been rife for several months over whether Casemiro would sign a new contract at United, particularly given the impact the midfielder has made since the announcement was made.
The 34-year-old has netted eight goals for United this campaign, four of which have come since the beginning of February, and has played a pivotal role in helping steer the Reds to third place in the Premier League table.
United have just five Premier League fixtures remaining this season, beginning with a home match against Brentford on Monday evening at Old Trafford.
Alongside a photograph of himself at Carrington, which prominently displayed the word ‘forever’ on the wall behind him, Casemiro used the very same word as his caption in a post shared with his 22.5 million Instagram followers, accompanied by a red love heart.
Should Casemiro depart United this summer, the midfielder has just three home fixtures remaining at Old Trafford this season, with Liverpool and Nottingham Forest amongst the upcoming opponents.
During United’s 3-1 victory over Aston Villa last month, the Stretford End rang out with chants of ‘one more year, one more year Casemiro’ after the Brazilian scored in the victory.
Michael Carrick was asked about Casemiro’s future following the match and quizzed on whether the midfielder might have a change of heart and choose to remain at United beyond this campaign.
“I think in some ways it’s difficult to say, I think it’s when something’s decided and in some ways the fact that it was decided makes things a little bit easier and everyone understands the situation really,” Carrick said last month.
“I think the impact he’s had has been terrific, certainly since I’ve been here and working with him and his influence within the team and big moments and goals.
“It was a nice moment at the end there with the supporters and having that connection, and the respect. That was a nice moment. I think you’ll enjoy that one.”
