David Beckham earned a reported £19million from his various brand endorsements at the World Cup. This blows away the combined £11m reportedly received by England’s squad and staff for their participation.

Brands also enlisted Beckham to front their advertising campaigns. He endorsed Lay’s crisps, Bank of America, Stella Artois and McDonald’s, among others. The 51-year-old reportedly earned a pretty penny for doing so, more than what the entirety of Tuchel’s squad supposedly bagged for their run to the final four.

According to The Sun, Beckham pocketed £19m from brand deals during the World Cup. This only swells his already astronomical net worth, which is estimated to be in the £1.1billion range when combined with his former Spice Girl other half.

The Inter Miami co-owner’s earnings even trump the sum handed to the England cohort. For reaching the World Cup semi-finals, FIFA awards the country’s national association £20m. For winning the third-place playoff, which England did when they beat France 6-4, this is increased by another £2m, bringing England’s total to £22m.

The FA reportedly allocates about half of this money, £11m, to the performance bonus pool for the squad and coaching staff. Under the bonus agreement negotiated between the team’s leadership group, this is shared around. However, Beckham’s World Cup was so successful that he earned more individually than the entire team combined.

When this £11m is divided, England’s players will likely earn between £350k and £420k each. The FA also sets aside a specific backroom bonus pool and manager Tuchel will be handed a standalone payout for reaching the semi-finals.

The players’ money does not include their £2k match fees, which, thanks to an agreement established by the England Footballers Foundation in 2007, are donated in full to charity. Their bonuses could still be donated to charity, though.

For example, after Euro 2020, the multi-million-pound bonus England’s players received was handed directly to NHS charities to support healthcare workers following the pandemic. Earnings are also subject to tax deductions. Still, no England player or staff member will receive anywhere near as much as Beckham, who will walk away from the tournament a fair deal richer.
