EDF handing out £50 if drivers do 1 thing before Sunday | Personal Finance | Finance
Energy giant EDF is warning electric vehicle (EV) drivers that they have just days left to claim a £50 cashback offer. New and existing customers have until the deadline to sign up to one of EDF’s EV tariffs and unlock the credit which is equivalent to around 2,500 miles or four months of free electric driving. The offer was launched in April amid rising petrol prices, with average prices surpassing 155p per litre and reaching a two-year high, leading to increased interest in electric vehicles and the savings they can offer. The offer closes at 11:59pm on Sunday, May 24.
The energy provider has seen demand for its EV tariffs increase by 32% year on year as more customers make the switch to electric, with EV sales also rising to 22% of new car sales in the UK. EDF has explained that the credit is available for sign-ups to EDF’s GoElectric, Pod Point Plug & Power and Pod Power tariffs and all come with seven hours of cheaper electricity every night (11pm – 6am) for customers’ homes and cars.
Unlike some other EV tariffs on the market, EDF said its EV tariffs are compatible with all vehicles regardless of the make or model.
Joe Souto, director of retail at EDF, said: “With petrol prices currently averaging 158p a litre, many drivers are feeling the cost of every journey more than ever.
“We’re giving drivers £50 EV credit when they sign up to one of EDF’s EV tariffs, helping them go further for less this spring with over 4 months of free driving.
“With an EV, customers have the confidence to plan longer trips, cut their running costs and reduce their carbon footprint without worrying about rising fuel prices.”
- GoElectric – EDF’s most popular EV tariff, offering an off-peak rate of 6.99p/kWh between 11pm and 6am. It can be paired with EDF’s Smart Charging bolt-on, which automatically manages charging when electricity is cheapest and can add extra savings.
- Pod Power – Available for customers with a Pod Point Solo 3S home charger. EDF stated that it offers the cheapest off-peak rate on the market at 6.49p/kWh.
- Pod Point Plug & Power – Allows drivers to purchase a Pod Point Solo 3S charger for an initial £499 (compared to £999), with the remaining cost spread over two years and built into the tariff.
EDF added that for an average motorist, charging with GoElectric and using the Smart Charging bolt-on, combined with the £50 cashback, would save drivers £1,330 a year compared with petrol.
Existing customers can sign up directly for an EV tariff using EDF’s online quoting tool. New customers can get a quote and sign up via the EDF website by selecting “yes” when asked if they would like an electric vehicle tariff. From there, customers can choose from the available EV tariff options.
Once the supply goes live, new customers are initially placed on EDF’s Standard Variable tariff. After the smart meter is connected to EDF’s systems, customers are automatically transferred to their chosen EV tariff.
Existing customers who want to switch to Pod Power can sign up via the Pod Power portal, while new customers can also request a quote online. There is a limit of one sign-up per household.
