The Premier League season’s final day could prove pivotal for Liverpool’s Champions League aspirations, while also promising to be a deeply emotional afternoon at Anfield. Several players, including some who have lifted two league titles with the club, are set to bid farewell to the Anfield faithful for the very last time. A defeat at Aston Villa means Arne Slot’s side require a draw against Brentford to secure a top-five finish without relying on favours elsewhere.
Liverpool have already confirmed that Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson will be departing after nine years on Merseyside. The duo helped the Reds clinch the Premier League in 2020 and 2025 – among other honours – and will prove enormously difficult to replace. Yet they may not be the only ones bidding farewell, with further departures potentially on the horizon this summer. Express Sport takes a look at who could be lining up for their final appearance for the club on Sunday…
Back in December, it appeared Salah might be about to leave the club. A widely reported falling out with Arne Slot led to speculation that he could have made an exit during the winter transfer window. A period away from the limelight at the Africa Cup of Nations ensued and the Egypt star ultimately remained. Not for much longer, though, as he announced in March that he intended to depart in the summer.
An injury sustained in the recent victory over Crystal Palace raised concerns that Salah might be denied a fitting farewell. Nevertheless, he made his comeback at Villa Park and is available for selection this weekend, though his most recent criticism of the club has prompted suggestions he should be dropped.
Robertson, like Salah, arrived at Liverpool during the summer of 2017. He was also linked with a departure before the conclusion of this campaign – Tottenham expressed interest in January – but he has remained.
The Scottish international was an unused substitute on Friday, with Milos Kerkez preferred ahead of him. He has featured less frequently this term but may still see action against Brentford.
Since his arrival from Hull City, Robertson has made over 350 Liverpool appearances and collected numerous honours. Spurs are still the frontrunners for his services should he remain in the Premier League.
Konate’s contractual status has been a recurring talking point this campaign. The French international seemed on the verge of a fresh deal in April but that speculation has subsequently quietened.
It is possible that both player and club head into Sunday’s fixture without clarity over what lies ahead. The 26-year-old has battled fitness problems throughout his spell at Liverpool, but has racked up 35 league outings this season. Konate and Robertson are two of four Liverpool players whose deals run out on June 30. However, back-up duo Freddie Woodman and Rhys Williams are not anticipated to feature in Sunday’s fixture.

Alisson has been sidelined through injury since March, sitting out Liverpool’s last seven league fixtures. It marks the second prolonged absence of the Brazilian’s campaign, though he has now returned to training and may be involved on Sunday.
The 33-year-old has been at Anfield since 2018, when he arrived following his role in helping Roma reach the Champions League semi-finals. A move back to Italy has been suggested, with Juventus said to be interested.
Giorgi Mamardashvili has delivered some impressive displays after initially being brought in as Alisson’s long-term replacement. Nevertheless, bidding farewell to a cornerstone of two title-winning squads will prove emotional whenever it occurs.
Jones is another player to be linked with a Serie A move. The academy graduate has attracted interest from Inter Milan, with reports indicating Denzel Dumfries could head in the opposite direction.
The England international’s remarks following Friday’s loss prompted speculation about his future. “Thank you for your continued support in a disappointing season. It’s way off the standards expected at this football club,” he posted on social media. Since making his Premier League debut in 2019, Jones has clocked up more than 150 appearances in the competition for his boyhood club. He has started the last seven league matches and is expected to play some role against Brentford.
Since arriving from Juventus during Arne Slot’s first transfer window at the helm, Chiesa has been repeatedly linked with a return to Italy. The 28-year-old has struggled to nail down a regular starting berth, but has, to his credit, shown little indication of any dissatisfaction at Anfield.
The Italian got his season off to a promising start with a crucial goal from the bench as Liverpool defeated Bournemouth, sparking considerable optimism about what lay ahead. He has managed just one further league goal but did feature as a substitute in each of the last three fixtures.
Several Serie A clubs, including former side Juve, have been touted as potential suitors for a summer move. Despite his difficulties, the Reds could yet make a profit on the £12.7million they originally paid.

Gomez is Liverpool’s longest-serving player and amongst the most long-standing in the entire Premier League. The defender arrived from Charlton Athletic in 2015, though this weekend’s fixture could prove to be his final outing for the club.
The England international still has a further year remaining on his contract. Nevertheless, reports have emerged suggesting he could depart before then, with AC Milan understood to be among those keen to secure his services. Capable of operating at right-back or centre-back, Gomez will be a significant loss should he depart. The 28-year-old has featured 32 times across all competitions this season and has clocked up more than 250 appearances for Liverpool in total, despite enduring some serious injury setbacks along the way.
Japanese midfielder Endo arrived ahead of Jurgen Klopp‘s final season at the helm but has struggled for game time under Slot. Reports have emerged suggesting he could depart in the summer rather than run down the final year of his contract, with a return to the Bundesliga mooted.
Fears had grown that the 33-year-old had already made his final Liverpool appearance after sustaining an ankle ligament tear in February. However, the former Stuttgart man has thrown himself into his rehabilitation and raised hopes of featuring against Brentford after earning a place in his nation’s World Cup squad.
“It wasn’t an easy way to recover from the injury, but I believed in myself to make this happen and will keep working hard to get fit for the games,” he said. “Thank you all my teammates, staff and the fans for always being with and supporting me. I hope to see all the LFC fans on the pitch at Anfield next week before going to the World Cup. YNWA.”
