England boss Thomas Tuchel rebuked for ‘going hard’ after win | Football | Sport

England boss Thomas Tuchel has been told he had no need to launch an attack on the referee’s performance following the Three Lions’ victory over Mexico. Former international goalkeeper Joe Hart suggested the German manager ‘got it wrong’ with his post-match comments.

Tuchel condemned the officiating standards. He said: “It’s just not good enough.

“The referees are just not good enough, fourth officials are just not good enough.

“That’s the bottom line. Three people in the VAR from South America in a match like this, if this is correct, VAR overturns… is this a clear and obvious error for the penalty? For sure not.

“They overturned a situation where he doesn’t even give a foul. Referees just not good enough, fourth officials just not good enough.”

However, Hart, who won 75 England caps during his career, believes Tuchel’s attention should not have been directed there after such a courageous display from his players.

“I think he has got that wrong,” Hart said. “I don’t know why he has gone so hard on that after such an impressive performance.

“I get it, against all the odds the red card and the penalties, but I don’t think they were borderline decisions. I thought they were decent decisions in the end.”

Tuchel also voiced his frustration when quizzed about United States forward Folarin Balogun having his one-match ban suspended for a year, after it had been widely anticipated he would sit out the clash against Belgium. US President Donald Trump placed a call to Gianni Infantino requesting an appeal, though the FIFA chief insists it played no part in the final ruling.

“Who overturns this decision then and when? And on what grounds? How far does this go now? This is strange for me,” Tuchel told reporters. “Where does this start and where does this end?”.
