England will shortly be calling Kansas City home. And the players’ wives and girlfriends can make the most of some Midwestern hospitality.
Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup 2026 squad arrive in Missouri on June 13. They could be stationed in neighbouring Kansas for more than a month if everything proceeds to plan on the pitch. Despite the Three Lions not featuring in a match in Kansas City, this location was chosen by the FA for multiple reasons, including its affectionate moniker amongst locals as the Soccer Capital of America. England can anticipate a warm reception when they land in this part of the States and the families of those competing also have plenty of venues to explore, whether in the charming suburb where the team’s hotel is situated or out in the city.
Kansas City is packed with glamorous establishments to eat, drink and unwind. Local reporter and author Nate Bukaty outlined precisely what the Three Lions’ other halves could experience.
“Obviously, you’ve got to go get some barbecue because this is the greatest barbecue city in the world,” he said. “There’s also a handful [of places to go out at night]. One thing I would point out, though it depends on what vibe you’re looking for, is that this is a city with an incredibly deep connection to jazz.
“I believe there was a movement in the early 1900s called the Kansas City Jazz Era. Charlie Parker is from Kansas City. So there are some really cool jazz clubs in town.
“One’s called the Green Lady Lounge and you’ve got the Black Dolphin. They honour that jazz tradition. I think that’s really cool. The Crossroads District is also a cool spot.”
Both the Green Lady Lounge and its sister project, the Black Dolphin Lounge, rank amongst the city’s premier clubs. For those seeking top-tier luxury, the live music establishments’ drinks menus feature a staggering $474 (£351) bottle of Dom Perignon 2013 Champagne.
The Crossroads District further boasts an array of upmarket dining options, including the rustic Lazia, where the WAGs can splash out on a $1,515 (£1,126) bottle of Vietti Villero Riserva Barolo 2016.
Away from the nocturnal excitement, the tranquil Prairie Village suburb where England’s players will be based appears to be an ideal retreat from the public eye.
The leafy, well-heeled enclave is renowned for its upscale open-air shopping boutiques, fashionable pilates studios and artisan juice bars, making it the perfect haven for families to relax between fixtures. Sporting KC icon and former US Men’s National Team defender Matt Besler knows the area well and is confident visitors will thoroughly enjoy their time there.

Besler said: “One of the nicknames of Prairie Village, people call it PV. This also stands for Perfect Village. It’s a perfect place to raise a family. It has a neighbourhood feel and is easy to get around.
“Lots of young kids and families. So, good schools, good markets, grocery stores, everything. So I think the English, the players’ families, it’s going to be a good setup for them.
“Because it’s safe, they can feel like they can get around if you want to get away for a coffee or a walk. You’re able to do that. Fresh air. I’m sure they’ll be recognised, but I don’t think you’ll be hassled or bothered too much.”
