‘Flattering’ M&S £40 midi skirt is ‘lightweight’ and ‘easy to pack

Marks and Spencer has added another versatile piece to its latest womenswear collection, with the Cotton Rich Checked Midi A-Line Skirt, a classic design that combines heritage-inspired checks with an easy-to-wear silhouette. Priced at £40, the skirt is designed in a flattering A-line shape with a midi hem making it an option that can transition effortlessly from summer into autumn.

According to M&S, it is crafted from cotton-rich fabric with added stretch for comfort and features a high-rise elasticated waistband finished with an adjustable drawstring. This neutral checked pattern gives the skirt a timeless feel that’s easy to style.

Pair it with a simple white T-shirt for everyday wear, or dress it up with a blouse for work and more formal events. A midi skirt can be worn for a number of occasions and the check print is a timeless choice.

Elsewhere at Nobody’s Child, the Pink Check Midi Skirt ticks this box too and it’s on sale for £31.60 down from £79. It is high-waisted for a comfortable fit and soft pleats give beautiful, flowing movement.

Lace hems are incredibly fashionable this season and Mango’s Fluid Midi Checked Skirt features a black floral lace hem. At £49.99 it comes in two monochromatic colours, black and white.

The Marks and Spencer Checked Midi Skirt may be new to the website, but sizes are already selling out – at the moment there’s only sizes 6 to 18 in stock, in petite, regualr or tall. Reviews have started to stack up, with one person writing: “Really nice lightweight skirt that will go with most things so very easy to wear, wash and dry.”

A second shopper wrote: “Saw this skirt in my local store. Just what I needed – not too long, cool lightweight fabric, flattering A-line shape, in classic cream/beige/grey/brown ‘tartan’ design, that goes with most of my summer clothes – and looks great with a sweater for evening wear. Not expensive and will be easy to pack for holidays or weekends away. Top Marks.”

And a third person explained: “Bought this skirt for work, needed something cool but still looking smart. Hasn’t disappointed. Love it! Very easy to maintain ie no ironing. Have had lots of compliments.”

Someone left a mixed review, commenting: “Lovely skirt. True to size and falls to lower calf – am 5’7. Had a few compliments when I wore it to work. The fabric is cool and doesn’t crease easily so all good. All it’s missing are some pockets which would have earned it five stars.”

A five-star review reads: “Very happy with this purchase. The fabric is soft and hangs nicely. The colour and check remind me of a famous make so very appealing. I’m 5ft 4 in. So ordered the petite size to make sure it was mid length and it is.”
