Gianni Infantino will lose his job as FIFA President following a bombshell resignation from one of his closest allies in football’s governing body, it has been claimed.

Carlos Cordeiro, Infantino’s closest advisor, resigned on Friday over his boss’s plans to launch business deals for its flagship tournaments with private equity investment.

In his furious letter, Mr Cordeiro said: “Let me be clear: I had no involvement in this proposal, and I oppose it unequivocally. It is a bad deal for FIFA’s member associations, a bad deal for football, and a bad deal for the long-term future of the game.”

Now, a journalist has claimed that Infantino is a “dead man walking” and “will lose his job” as FIFA President.

Romain Molina said on X: “Infantino is a dead man walking The inflammatory statements made by Kevin Lamour, FIFA’s director of operations, were prompted by the fact that he knows that FIFA’s general secretary, Mattias Grafstrom, has distanced himself from Infantino and is plotting a coup Infantino’s (very) close circle had warned him months ago, also pointing out the close ties between Grafstrom and Gelson Fernandes, and that they were ‘waiting for the right moment to undermine him’

“Paranoia is at its peak, as are the political intrigues: Infantino has lost control of FIFA and will soon lose his job.”

In response to Infantino’s plans, first reported by The Times, UEFA confirmed its 55 member states would boycott FIFA competitions unless the proposals were ditched.

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and CONCACAF, North America’s football governing body, also opposed the plans.

Prime Minister Andy Burnham also weighed in, calling said Infantino “the wrong man” to lead FIFA.
