A teenager was allegedly raped, murdered, and left with an iron rod inside her in a horrific incident. The traumatic incident triggered protests, with nearby residents blocking a road following the attack.

Protesters demanded the immediate arrest of those who carried out the violent assault. Police say the 15-year-old was found dead inside her home with her head and face smashed, and she reportedly had an iron bar inserted into her before she died.

The incident took place on Saturday, August 1, but only became public knowledge two days later.

The girl had gone to a relative’s house with her family members to attend an event, but after arguing with a cousin, she returned home alone.

It was at this point that she was gang-raped and bludgeoned to death. Her family returned to their home in the town of Hailakandi, northeastern India.

As reported by the Asia News Network, police have not officially confirmed that a sexual assault took place, but an investigation has been launched, and five people have been arrested.

Senior superintendent of police Amitabh Sinha told reporters: “The family claims she was sexually assaulted, but we are waiting for the post-mortem report before drawing any conclusions.

“We are investigating the matter thoroughly.”

A “large contingent” of police was sent to the scene and the blockade on National Highway 6, between Assam and Mizoram, left hundreds of vehicles stranded for several hours.

Devarakonda Vijay, 26, and Karanki Mahesh Babu, 24, were convicted of gang rape and murder, while Devarakonda Srikanth, 24, was sentenced to five years in prison and fined 2,000 rupees (£15) after being found guilty of harbouring the offenders.
