Halifax has shared some details about a key change to customer accounts taking place “over the coming months”. The issue was put in the spotlight after a customer asked a question over social media as they were having issues using the app.

The person asked: “When is the Halifax banking being transferred to Lloyds? I hope the app improves, as it’s the slowest to open I’ve experienced… Halifax, Lloyds and BOS, all chronically slow.”

The three banks alluded to here – Halifax, Lloyds Bank and Bank of Scotland – are all part of the Lloyds Banking Group. In response to the question, Halifax said: “This is a brand change only, so there’s no change to your day-to-day banking relationship.

‘Customers will be invited’

“Halifax’s customers will be invited to move to the Lloyds app and Online Banking in stages over the coming months. There’s no action needed until you receive your invitation.

“Your account details, payments, and banking services will remain the same.” Halifax invited the customer to send them a direct message for more help.

Guidance on the Halifax website explains: “Over the next few months, we’ll be in touch to move you to the Lloyds app and online banking as we’ll be closing these for Halifax. They work in a similar way so should feel familiar and just as easy to use.

“We’ll send you an invitation in the app and online banking, so you’ll know it’s from us. It’ll guide you through the process in just a few easy steps, with no passwords or memorable details to set up. We’ll also email you around the time the invite will appear, so you don’t miss it.”

Branch change query

In a separate query to Halifax, a customer voiced their frustration after Halifax had closed their local branch in Liverpool. Halifax has closed several branches in 2026 already, with more outlets shutting their doors over the coming months.

The unhappy customer wanted to know why Halifax had closed their local branch. In reply, the bank said: “Branch decisions are based on a range of factors, including how customers are choosing to bank and the availability of nearby services. You can find information about branch closures and alternative banking options here.”
