The customer contacted the provider over social media, saying they were waiting for their replacement Visa debit card to arrive. They explained: “My current one expires at the end of June. Please can you tell me when I should receive this through the post by?”
Halifax responded with some key timeframes for account holders to note.
The group said: “Your replacement card is usually sent out in advance and should arrive within five working days, although it may sometimes arrive closer to your current card’s expiry date.
“You should receive your new replacement card before your old one expires.”
The customer then asked if they would need to activate the contactless feature for the new card or if they could just use it as normal. Halifax responded saying they would need to some action here.
‘You need to activate it’
The group said: “You’ll just need to activate your new card first before you can use contactless payments. Once it’s activated, you can use it as normal, including contactless.”
To activate contactless on a bank card, you have to first making a Chip and PIN transaction. This means you will need to go into a shop or use a cash machine providing your PIN number, to activate the contactless feature.
If your Halifax bank card is damaged or not working, you can order a new one through the mobile app or via online banking. Your replacement card should arrive within five working days of when you order it.
Another option is to call up the bank for help. You can order a replacement debit card by calling 0330 912 6218. You can order a replacement credit card by phoning 0345 944 4555.
Lines are open 8am to 6pm, 7 days a week, but are closed on bank holidays. You can also call up Halifax to arrange a replacement card to be sent out to you. If your card has been lost or stolen, the number to call is 0800 015 1515.
