However, the mood among their supporters changed from joy to horror after the bus came under a hail of gunfire in a sickening attack. It was hit with a total of 10 bullets and one fan was transported to hospital after being shot in the arm, according to local outlet La Derecha Diario. The supporter was reportedly visited by Tigres president Martin Suarez after receiving treatment.

Footage from the shocking incident shows blood splattered across the floor of the bus, while bullet holes can be seen alongside smashed windows.

It’s claimed that around 2,000 supporters travelled to watch Tigres at the Gran Parque Central Stadium, the home of Nacional, in Montevideo, Uruguay.

Following the attack, Tigres released a statement condemning the “extremely serious acts of violence” against their fans.

The statement read: “Tigre expresses its strongest repudiation regarding the extremely serious acts of violence suffered by our members, both male and female, and fans during their return trip from the city of Montevideo, in the context of the match played against Club Nacional de Uruguay.

“In response to these regrettable events, the institution implemented the corresponding contingency measures to ensure the safety of our members.

“In the early hours of this morning, the group travelling by bus arrived in Buenos Aires. Likewise, the club reports that, among the injured and affected by the incident, the member who required medical assistance at the scene was transferred to a local hospital.

“After receiving the appropriate treatment, he remained lodged at the hotel where the club’s delegation was staying, accompanied at all times by institutional leaders and in constant contact with the medical team, which monitored his progress.

“This morning, the institution arranged for his return transfer to Buenos Aires, after confirming a favourable evolution in his health condition.

“From our institution, we repudiate these events and absolutely condemn any manifestation of violence. Football must be a celebration, and under no circumstances should we accept that the physical integrity of our people is put at risk.”
