A girl was allegedly gang raped at multiple hotels over the course of four days. Police have confirmed eight suspects have been arrested while their investigation remains ongoing.
The victim was reportedly taken to the first hotel on Thursday, June 18. She was then gang raped a number of times across other hotels until Sunday, June 21. Police have since arrested eight suspects and taped off the hotels where the alleged rapes took place. The force added that pictures of the victim were shared with multiple people by the hotel managers.
As reported by ETV Bharat, the girl was allegedly raped in hotels across the city of Sri Ganganagar in the Indian state of Rajasthan. She was initially picked up by an e-rickshaw driver who took her to the first hotel.
The girl was then reported missing by her mother before police launched an immediate search. She was soon found before reporting what had happened to the force.
After being reported missing, the girl was found through mobile location data. Detectives have since examined hotel registers, CCTV footage, mobile phone records and digital chats.
Local police said photographs of the girl have been recovered from mobile phones. They are now searching for several more suspects in relation to the reported rapes.
Harishankar Yadav, Superintendent of Police (SP) in Sri Ganganagar, said: “The girl’s mother filed a missing person report at the Sadar police station. Using mobile location data and technical analysis, the police recovered the girl and uncovered the entire case.”
He added: “The victim’s statement has been recorded, and further legal action is underway. Eight accused have been arrested so far, while other suspects have been detained for questioning.
“Strict action would be taken against the hotels involved. Once the investigation concludes, proceedings to seal the hotels will be initiated, and if the hotel operators are found to be complicit, stern legal action will be taken against them as well.”
