Horror as three dead after falling from popular observation tower in Germany | World | News

Three people have died after falling from a popular lookout tower in Germany. Emergency services were called to Harz Tower in Altenau-Schulenberg at around 4.45pm local time on Thursday, with numerous personnel staying into the evening.

Police officers cordoned off the area and set up privacy screens, and the country’s crisis intervention team has also been sent to the scene. The cause of the fall is not yet clear.

The Harz Tower (Harzturm) is a 213 ft high observation tower in Torfhaus, Germany.

Officially opened in November 2023, it is Germany’s highest wooden observation tower and features 360-degree panoramic viewing platforms, a 150 ft high glass skywalk, and the “Rasantia” adventure slide for a 360 ft spiralling descent.

The tower is designed to resemble a twisted tree trunk or a spiralling spruce cone and has become a major tourist attraction in the Harz National Park, offering direct views of the nearby Brocken mountain.
