A young woman was allegedly gang raped while her husband was tied to a tree. Police have confirmed three suspects have been arrested following the alleged attack on Monday night (July 27).
It’s reported the victim’s husband was called out of their home before being taken to a secluded area and tied to a tree. The alleged attackers then used his mobile phone to call the woman, 25, and ask her to bring cash and jewellery to the location. However, she arrived to find her husband tied up before she was raped by the men. She reportedly screamed for help which prompted the attackers to flee the scene as emergency services rushed to the area.
As reported by The Business Standard, the alleged gang rape took place in Naria Upazila, located in the Shariatpur district of Bangladesh. The woman was reportedly raped on Monday night before the suspects were arrested during a raid on Tuesday morning (July 28).
After screaming for help, locals rushed to the scene of the alleged attack while the suspects fled. Police were then called before the man and woman were rushed to hospital and an urgent investigation was launched.
Police have since confirmed that three men, identified as 28-year-old Rabbi, Hazrat Ali Khandaker, 42, and Emon Khandaker, 26, have been arrested in connection with the attack. They remain in custody.
According to local media, the woman, who was rushed to Shariatpur General Hospital, said: “They called me there after keeping my husband hostage. I pleaded with them, but they did not listen.”
Meanwhile, the hospital’s Residential Medical Officer Dr Mitu Akter confirmed she was undergoing medical treatment. She added: “Vaginal swab and DNA samples have been collected for forensic examination. The matter will be confirmed after receiving the test results.”
Bahar Mia, the police officer in charge of the case, said the force rescued the woman after receiving reports from locals. He also confirmed that three people have been arrested and remain in custody.
The suspects will face further legal action based on the progress of the investigation and forensic test results.
