A young woman was allegedly drugged before being gang raped by four men. A police investigation has been launched, and the suspects remain at large following the attack on Saturday (June 13).
Officials said the victim, 24, was in a field when she was approached by the men. They then drugged her before reportedly raping her and fleeing the scene. After failing to return home, the victim’s family set out to find her and eventually located her in a nearby forested area. She was rushed to hospital for treatment and is believed to be in a stable condition.
As reported by the Times of India, the alleged attack took place in the Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh. Local police officers, led by Senior Superintendent Sanjay Kumar, have launched an urgent manhunt to track down the attackers.
It’s reported that three police teams have been deployed to find the suspects. They are continuing to urge the public to come forward with relevant information.
According to the report, the victim visited the field on Saturday to gather food for livestock. She was then approached by the men who drugged and raped her.
Police have identified one of the men as Umer. However, they have not released his surname and have not identified the other three suspects in the reported attack.
Police also said the woman was taken to hospital after being found in the forested area. They are continuing to investigate the circumstances around the attack.
Muzaffarnagar is a state in the Indian district of Uttar Pradesh. It has an estimated population of over 4.1 million, including around 744,000 residents in its metropolitan region.
